John Baymore's

Where the Continuing Journey Has Now Led

Since the prior web page was written, there have been a couple of recent developments that seem to continue the "Japanese Connection" that appears to be running through John's life:

July 2002

Tokai Gallery, a Japanese gallery on Newbury Street in Boston, has recently invited John to be in their first ever exhibition of  non-Japanese potters.  This three person show, called "Transformations", focuses on American wood firing potters whose work is heavily influenced by Japanese ceramics.  The exhibition opens on July 1st and runs through August 15th, 2002.  There is a reception with the artists on the evening of Friday, July 5th  from 5 to 7 PM.

August 2002

In mid-May of 2002, John was honored to receive an invitation from Ryouji Matsumiya to be one of about 50 international presenters from around the world at the upcoming Aomori International Wood Fire Festival to be held in Goshogawara-shi, Aomori-ken, Japan running August 8th through 17th, 2002.  In addition to the potters invited from around the world, there will also be about 20 Japanese potters presenting.  This festival will find the participants producing work, interacting with each other, giving demos and slide lectures, and firing the anagama and noborigama kilns there.  There will be an exhibition of works which the participants have shipped from their home countries, and pieces from all the presenters will be placed in the permanent collection of the Goshogawara-shi Art Museum.

While in Japan for this new honor, John will also take an additional few days to travel back to Mashiko-machi in Tochigi-ken in order to visit with some of the friends which he made while there for the award ceremony in 1996.

So...... once again......... who knows where this all will lead him next?
