Working on why the email function, the ordering function, and the playing of video sequences is not working correctly. Changes will occur to some pages over the next hours and days. Not all will be documented here.

Second Year Website Anniversary!
Over 10,000 visitors in 2 years. WOW! That's a consistent average of 14 visits a day.

After a very difficult winter due to family "life event" type issues, I am now back trying to get the website updated. Eight months of neglect is NOT a good thing for a website. My apologies. It will take a while to catch up.
Small update changes to the "Background" page.
Started cleaning up the "Links" page of all the dead links..... (amazing how fast they go bad)

Still having the communications issues between Frontpage and the server.
Added copy of my NCECA Journal article on "Computers in the Studio" from 1984 in "Potters Info Center".
More small changes to the "Background" page.

I'm having some problems with getting Frontpage "talking to" the website server correctly since some changes to the host server and changes to my system. I will be doing some testing and changes in the next few days. Please bear with me as I get these problems sorted out.

A changeover to a whole new computer system running Win XP and also setting up other home and studio computers has precluded much work on the website recently. What a chore!!!! I'll try to get some new stuff up here now <g>.
Updated some info on the "Background" page.

Reactivated the "Message Board" section of the website.
Changed the properties of the text hyperlinks on some pages to a DHTML effect.
Began the process of setting up a "Table of Contents" page.

Performed a major overhaul of the Homepage to speed up initial loading.
Added two "entry sequence" pages off the homepage with a new navigation menu.
Added a "credits" page.
I expect there will be some navigation problems with the existing navigation bars for a while as I de-bug things. Please have patience and I apologize for any inconvenience. Use the "back" button on your browser if the links don't "jump" correctly.

Added Todd Piker's website on the Woodfire Potters Webring. Todd was an original member who is once again active on the ring.

A computer crash has had me "offline" for a while. Just getting back to updating the website. Also, if you have sent me recent email or left phone messages on the studio lines......... I may have lost them. Sorry!!!!!!! Working on sorting it all out right now.
Marked a number of pieces "sold" in the Gallery section.
Updated some information on the Earth, Water, and Fire Workshop page.
Took the old "HOT" news button off the homepage....since it wasn't "new" news anymore.
Updated the League Fair page with the fact that I will be taking a year off due to a trip.

Added a page on the "yohen" firing that was done in chamber #4 during this summers Earth, Water, Fire woodfiring workshop off of the "Earth, Water, and Fire" page.
Temporarily shut down the "Discussion Group" pages until I can get those pesky "get rich quick" ads out of there.

Deleted some very annoying "get rich quick" advertising that showed up in the "Discussion Group" area. Do they really think that will work?
Did some minor housekeeping stuff.
Took the "Guestbook" function offline temporarily. The external service that I was using to handle the guestbook function here has changed how it does things....and it no longer works the way I want it to. Stay tuned.

Fixed some directions to the studio that had changed due to landmarks changing.

Added a short biography in the Japanese language, linked off the "John's Background" page.
Found a glitch in the website ordering system on some items. If you don't hear from me shortly after placing an order on some items...... email me. I didn't get YOUR email address through the system! Working on fixing it.

Added a basic page for the Aomori Wood Fire Festival off the main homepage. Much more will be added later. Waiting until my Ceramics Monthly article on it is published.
Made a couple of necessary price changes in the "Virtual Gallery".
Few minor housekeeping things cleaned up.

It all came rushing back in an instant today. Amazing how a year can vanish and the memories seem so fresh. We remember.... we grieve...... we cry.......... we try to make sense of it all........ we go on.... because there is no sense.
I have recently returned from halfway across the globe where a group of 80 clay artists from 17 nations worked together in an intense environment of sharing and camaraderie for 10 days...... with all the artificial borders thrown down through the common bond of clay and fire. We met in a country that only a generation earlier had been my country's arch enemy, with each of us slaughtering thousands of the others citizens. Now, we learn from each other about making pottery.
The world is incomprehensible sometimes.
This event came to be because of the dream of one man, Matsumiya Ryouji, to promote some international understanding through art. May other people in positions of leadership someday grasp even a small piece of the deep wisdom that Ryouji-san already has discovered.
My heart goes out to all those who were so deeply affected by the horrible 9/11 events. May you find some healing and peace for your hearts.

Fixed some errant navigation buttons on the "Message Board" function.

Began re-setting up the "Wood Fire Potters" webring that had lapsed when Yahoo stopped supporting the webring home. Started re-inviting the old ring membership to re-join. Watch as this webring expands.

Added a little animated speaker icon to the top of the "Noborigama" page to indicate that it has sound.
Added an on-line message / discussion board for discussion of ceramics.
Note: The "search" function in the message board is not working yet. Can't find the problem yet <g>.

Added a short low resolution 103K .avi video loop without sound on the "On Woodfiring" page.
Deleted the animated flame "On Woodfiring" headline to save some download file size on the page to add in the video clip.
Changed the location of the "What's New" hyperlink on the homepage and added a new graphic and update time and date stamp.
The "On Woodfiring" page video should automatically run and loop forever.

Added a 1:07 minute 2.6 Meg low resolution .avi video file with sound on the "Noborigama" page showing selected highlights from a firing of the wood kiln.
Changed the main homepage image to a new photo taken by Japanese journalist Yokota Masuo.
Performed a couple of routine housekeeping tasks and made minor rearrangements.
This large video file still needs debugging.... clicking on the "alert" type popups located in the general text on that page unfortunately halts the looped playbacks of the video. It also halts the animated "recycle" icon. Will fix these as soon as I can.
The video file is designed to load (at a 28.8 kbs connection speed) in the time it takes you to read all the text on the page. About the time you get to the bottom, it should automatically start and loop forever.

Cleaned up, added, and deleted some "broken" links on the "Links" page. Still more work to be done on that page as websites move their url's or go offline.
My profuse apologies for the "Japan Guide" link that was, for a while, referencing to a porn site. When it was originally put onto my links page it was a general reference website on Japan. It has been deleted today!!!!!

It is truly a "black" day for the United States and also for all the civilized people of the entire world. My condolences and prayers go out to all who have lost friends or loved ones in these tragic incidents in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington. The heros of the day are the firefighters, police, emergency aid workers, medical personnel, volunteers, as well as military and National Guard members who have responded to try to rescue the survivors and prevent more destruction, death, and injury. All too many have died or been injured in their efforts. |

Problems with my ISP on a server changeover he has been making has caused numerous problems on this website for about the last month and a half. If you have sent an email or an order utilizing those functions on the website, it is likely that I have not seen them. My apologies for any inconvenience. There has also been more frequent "downtime" than normal.
Now that things are settling down a bit with the big technical glitches, I will be attempting to update the site once again.

Fixed more hover buttons that didn't work. Edited a bit of text here and there. Added "ALT" descriptions to many photographs for non-graphical browsers. Fixed the email image button on the "Contact" page so that you don't get the "no right click" message. Added a "frame breaker" Java script to the homepage. Added a list of my food recipes to go with my pots under the "Virtual Gallery" section.
Added a jump to FAST search and a link to my older daughter's homepage to the "Links" section. Some general cleanup. Fixed some of the problems with the new navigational hover buttons <g>.

Navigation buttons added to most pages and a graphic "style" for these buttons established. Some hyperlinks sending the browser off my site are now set to open in new windows.

The first attempt to get the Email function to work is now in place....hopefully it works now. Added some hyperlinks on the directions page to some local Wilton, NH businesses and schools. More work on the Metatags. More spelling corrections <g>. Added the link to download Microsoft Internet Explorer on the bottom of the home page.

Added a scrolling marquee (Internet Explorer type) on the summer workshop page....the first animation on the site.

Cleaned up some internal links to various photos that weren't working correctly. Fixed the loading of the background on all pages. Changed the webcounter format to both English and Japanese. Fixed some page formatting on various pages.
Well...... other than the image on the top of the homepage....... it is pretty much ALL new!
